group(4) Summary of chapter 4

Summary of chapter 4

The orphanage was situated in the war-torn town of Nepal. At the beginning, he was at an undecided on the volunteer job. He had doubts because he thought he did not have enough skills to carry out the duty, nor did he have enough passion to carry out the job, especially since the country was at war. This though was pacified by the children who were daring, buoyant who put up a challenge to him, and rewarded him in a way he had never thought. When he learned about their actual situations, and how they overcame them, he was amazed. The children were not orphans, but children traffickers had brought them in the orphanage. Child traffickers had promised families in the cities that they would take the children to a place of safety away from the war, but for a huge amount of fee. They then abandoned these children in the city of Kathmandu, where there was an outbreak of war. What seemed to be an adventurous tour turned out to be a mission; that of uniting these children who had left a mark in his life with their families.

connor talked about, when he returned to Little Princes to work Fund- raising and he found out that was hard. At the end of September he received an email from fellow University of Virginia graduate, from person was her name Liz Flanagan. She wanted get more information about article in the Charlottesville newspaper. He also received a lot of emails from people saying they really would like to work with impoverished children someday. Liz wanted to know if next Generation Nepal was possibly joined with global organization that could recommend. On Easter morning 2004, Hoi An - Vietnam, Zambia - with HIV kids, then South Africa, this Christmas she had plan to go to India. When she was twenty- two, she was in England. Anna Howe, she told me everything about Humla, same age his mother, they met up after a few days when he arrived to Nepal, and Anna worked for in Kathmandu, Find Amita in the path standing on the road holding the two bottles, after that he sent her to Umbrella Foundation, and he had received a phone call from Gyan. To let him know that Amita is safe wit Umbrella, they take care of her.

Conor had for some time tried to find young boys in the Nepal region whose whereabouts were not clear to him. As he was playing in the field one day a call came in for him, it was a “Nepali man” called Gyan and he told Conor that four of the boys had been found and two had been taken to hospital for they were malnourished. The hospital so congested and unclean but there was no alternative. Days later the boys pulled through and were taken to the Umbrella Foundation. Two more boys Kumar and Bishnu were still missing. But in less than a week Gyan communicated to Conor that Kumar had been found but he had already been sold as a domestic slave to some government official. Conor had all the best intentions to get Kumar back but it proved to be difficult to even attempt it. He wrote an e-mail to Farid for updates but that was not enough because he felt guilty for not being able to rescue Kumar. Conor then wrote to Liz who eventually calmed him down

When after Conor and Farid find out six children, but a child named Bishnu was still disappear. He has been missing for nine months. Conor has rent an apartment; the children can be seen from his dwelling place. Nepal’s living conditions was different with United States, they do not have heating system and very limited hot water, so when Conor first time lived in his new apartment, he was freezing, he set up camp in his room. Conor’s lining place has many monkeys, those monkey often hanging off his Internet cable line and cut off his connection to the outside. After a period of time, conor build a good relationship with monkeys. Conor told Liz about his experience, he really wants to Liz visit Nepal and he invites Liz come to Nepal to see children. Liz thought serious considerations finally agree Conor’s invitation.

Analysis

The author is successful in passing his idea to the audience. He uses various literature devices to tell his story. Suspense is used effectively as the story makes one wants to know what happens after each page. The author appeals to the emotions of the people by bringing out the problems these children face.
Connor showed his humanity in this chapter and how he never gives up finding those children and he did not know that he can be able to find them but he found the little princes Amita in the path standing on the road holding the two bottles.
It is a memoir written by Conor Grennan about young children being sold as domestic slavers in Nepal and being forced to survive in the harshest conditions of starvation and malnutrition. The locals like Gyan seem to know of the illegal inhuman business but nobody can do anything about it. Worst is that one of the young boy was sold to a government official which shows how law enforcement is somehow weak in Nepal especially under the human rights department. The medical sector in Nepal is also alarming as the best hospital available is not up to standards.
Chapter 4 was the highlight of the whole book. This chapter describes the Conor and Farid look for child was a difficult process. In my opinions, since Conor’s first step on the ground of Nepal, he could not image that he living in this barren land for three years. And in order to find the lost child home, he went to Humla several times. You will be surprised that what kind of power makes him going to there. To tell the truth, I do not know the reason, but when I finished reading the book, I was impressed by the Conor. Conor has returned to the United State, in other words, he did not have responsibility to back to the Nepal, but the child who lived in home of the little prince keep his heart and catch his all the attention. In the end of this chapter, Conor invited Liz visited Nepal, this made matting for the back of the plot.

"Little Princes" Comparison

The story written by Connor Grennan describes a unique experience of an adult man who discovered the world and himself by making a decision to travel around the world. Within this paper, I am going to make a comparison of two separated parts of this book located on pages 6-9 and 52-55.

In the first part of the text, we see a selfish person who is probably an adult factually, but is still behaving as a child. He is living without any responsibilities or particular plans for the future. He speaks about orphanages a little bit ironic, and consider his upcoming journey the kind of entertainment. He believes that his experience of volunteering will be more like an excuse for taking a year of fun, and we clearly understand it when he says ''who would dare begrudge me my year of fun after doing something like that?' (Grennan 7).

In a contrast to the first part, in the second part of the book, we can see how the main character turns to be a  totally different person. He starts to understand what it is like to feel responsible for someone, who needs care, support and love. The children he meets help him to understand the power of promise and hope. He still remember how much he liked dating women, watching TV and simply going out. He feels like he needs all these activities, but at the same time, he understands how much meaningful and valuable his life could be.

Comparing these two episodes of book, describes how much a person can change, when he or she decides to change surrounding and to try something new. Even the written style is different for these two parts. In a contrast to the first part, in the second the author uses more weighted and valuable.

Book Review: “Little Princes”

Book Review: “Little Princes”

Little Princess by Conor Grennan is a widely known book based on a true story of author’s life.  The book focuses on how Conor greatly changed his life style and at the same time improved that of the Nepalese orphans. The book tells how Conor got sick and tired from the job he had been doing for about eight years and decided to take a holiday for a worldwide trip. For him, the holiday meant to spend part of his savings on visiting various interesting parts of the world. Conor thought to make a story that he would tell people and they would remember him. He therefore decided to pick one the poorest countries in the world and volunteer to help the orphans.

Conor developed a lot of interest to his venture and a strong affection to the children that he had sponsored. His adventure did not end there, so he travelled all around the world. However, the priorities of sponsoring children soon shifted to the little princes whom he keeps remembering every now. Despite the point that his initial intention was to spend his time as a volunteer in helping the poor children and make his fun, he later realized that his valuable time could be spent helping the unfortunate orphans of Nepal. That is why Conor and his friend Farid decided to start a charitable home where they could keep the needy children and later assist them in reuniting with their parents.

The narrative of his adventurous story appears boring in the beginning, but with time people develop a strong liking to his stories. He maintains the spirit of a good story-teller by putting lots of humor and using sarcastic words until people get amused. Indeed, the ideas of Conor are wonderfully presented in his book Little Princess. He has tried to expose his ideas to his audience so they would greatly admire him. The idea of reuniting children to their parents moves many of Conor’s readers to tears. The effort of the author to start children’s home and a base to find their parents shames those who practice child trafficking. At one instance Conor narrates how seven children were overwhelmed by joy after reuniting with their parents. The author has included some pictorial presentations to express the joy of the parents. It was so much encouraging for the Nepalese to maintain the spirit and energy for waiting until they got back to their parents.

Any reader who is not indifferent would rather recommend this book. The worldwide trip bore fruits. The author expressed his willingness to help the needy, so his adventures of visiting new places turned to be the adventures of helping the needy. The author has taught his audience many new things. Some of the readers have never heard of Nepal and its civil war, child trafficking and many other inhuman acts around the world. Many readers are now aware of such evil deeds. Personally, I may not forget to thank Conor Grennan for his good artistic work.
